June 18-29, 2008

Comprehension Institute open to RF schools by VDOE invitation only.

This two-day institute will bring RF coaches and their teams together in Roanoke, VA (the Hotel Roanoke) to study how to differentiate comprehension instruction for children in their schools. Through large and small group instruction, teams will meet with instructors to design instructional units, prepare for training sessions, and think about book-rooms to support differentiation at their home schools. Each team will receive sample books for units that will be designed. This is a free institute, sponsored by Reading First, and aimed at enabling RF grant schools to better extend reading instruction beyond the 90 minute reading block.

July 29-30, 2008

Comprehension Institute open to any administrator/teacher in the state.

Instructors will work with teachers in large and small group settings, provide sample trade books, and show demonstration videos that will enable participants to plan best instruction for their own classrooms and schools. This is a free professional development offering, sponsored by Reading First. It will be repeated in 2008-2009.
